i entered an amateur stand up comedy competition so as to spur myself into finally actually doing it and it was tonight and IT WENT PRETTY GOOD MAYBE

it was a heat and i didn’t get through (unless i get a wildcard but not likely, i don’t think) but i’m okay with that because i was one of 2 out of like 14 that had never ever done it before, and there was some shockingly unfunny people. i didn’t get huge laughs but you know, at least i can say that i’m just new to it, and not an old hand and really shitty

i discovered that white men love to make masturbation/rape/generally misogynistic jokes, and also that apparently that if you open with a punchline-less joke about masturbating next to your sleeping girlfriend in bed at night then you can totally win something like that

but the adrenaline of it all, the blinding lights, the loud laughs from the back…it’s kinda intoxicating, even if my heart was beating like the australian media on a dead horse (BAM there’s some gold right there)

a couple of people i talked to couldn’t believe it was my first time so that’s pretty cool. i talked wayyyy too fast and didn’t even get through all the material i wanted to (frankly, i didn’t know it well enough, ended up extending punchlines to ill effect and leaving out better ones by accident, alas) but holy shit! that was a thing i did

a friend videoed it for me so i may post it at some point, look out for it maybe!
